Welcome!

I'm Heather Wallace, the photographer
& founder of Silver Ink. I've always been drawn to the power of photographs and the impact they can have on people, from the way they see themselves and others,
to how they remember the important things
that happen in their world.

I am a romantic at heart
(I did marry my kindergarten sweetheart)
and I love to infuse my images with a bit of
that romance coupled with a touch of
reality and true emotion.

I'd love to capture a chapter of your story...

What's the meaning behind Silver ink?

The darkroom is where the name "Silver Ink" comes from. The technical way of creating an image on either film or paper (the way it used to be done...), is by exposing the silver halide crystals that are coated on said film/paper to light and then bathing them in a cocktail of chemical baths. The exposed silver particles turn dark and the unexposed crystals stay "white" and that is essentially what yields the result of a film negative or a classic black and white photograph. I've always considered that special silver (in the film and paper) the "ink" that creates the image. That is where the name was born.
